The story of how the Pine Grove came into being is intricately connected to the Volpini family from Porto Recanati but especially to Engineer Volpino, who, beginning at the end of the 19th century, developed a series of projects with the objective of cultivating those species which were unsuited to the climate and sandy terrain, being only a short distance from the beach. By identifying and utilising a source of fresh water found in the area, they were able to grow and accommodate about 180 different plant species.
The creation of a network of canals and the choice of a suitable cultivation technique has led to the creation of a green oasis on the sea, with typical plant species of the Mediterranean scrub.
